Canada Says It Won’t React to Every Trump Social Media Post

(MENAFN) According to reports, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada will not respond to every social media statement made by US President Donald Trump, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining working relations with Washington.

Speaking at a news conference in Longueuil, Quebec, Carney noted that the US president is a highly active user of social media and that Ottawa would not engage with each individual post.

“The president is an exceptionally active user of social media, the media,” Carney said, according to reports. “It’s only gone up in recent months, and we’re not going to respond or react to everything that he posts.”

His remarks came after renewed comments from Trump suggesting Canada could become America’s “51st state,” which were reposted by US Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra, according to reports.

Carney dismissed suggestions that Canada should take diplomatic action over the repost, stating that Ottawa must continue working with the current US administration.

“It’s our biggest trading relationship, it’s our biggest security relationship, many other relationships, and we work with that administration,” he said, according to reports.

He also confirmed ongoing engagement between Canadian and US officials on trade and other issues, noting that senior Canadian representatives were in Washington for discussions with US counterparts.

According to reports, Carney stressed that Canada continues to approach the relationship pragmatically, treating the US administration as it is while maintaining cooperation across key policy areas.
